2011 Range Rover Offers New V8 Diesel with 8-Speed Transmission
Land Rover will offer the 2011 Range Rover equipped with a new V8 diesel engine and new 8-speed transmission, contributing to combined European cycle fuel consumption of 9.4 L/100km (25 mpg US)—an 18.5% improvement over its predecessor.
The LR-TDV8 4.4-liter with parallel sequential turbocharging replaces the LR-TDV8 3.6-liter diesel and is unique to the Range Rover. The LR-TDV8 delivers a 15.1% increase in power to 313 PS (309 hp, 230 kW) and a 9.4% boost in torque to 700 N·m (516 lb-ft). CO2 emissions are down 14% to 253 g/km.
The new diesel engine is helped in this respect by the new, electronically controlled, ZF 8HP70, 8-speed automatic gearbox. This is the first 8-speed gearbox ever fitted to a Range Rover. Closer ratios improve comfort, while the wider ratio spread improves efficiency. Transmission Idle Control reduces fuel consumption.
This Range Rover accelerates from 0 to 60mph in 7.5 seconds, and from 50mph-75mph in 5.1 seconds.
Available only on 4.4-liter LR-TDV8 models, this ‘smart’ transmission integrates with the diesel engine to deliver the most efficient operating regime in all conditions. To reflect the performance of the new 4.4-liter LR-TDV8, diesel models are fitted with the same Brembo-based braking system fitted to the 5.0-litre LR-V8 supercharged model.
For 2011, the Range Rover retains the same 5.0-litre LR-V8, supercharged gasoline engine mated to the ZF HP28 6-speed automatic transmission introduced in 2010. Developing 510PS and 625N·m torque, the Supercharged LR-V8 accelerates the Range Rover from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds.
